Swapped a charged battery from another phone and then was able to complete the process. Mine came with only a minimal charge that ran out before I figured it out. Once that's done, it works as advertised. Works great - but the setup was quite tricky. You need to register the phone with the base unit before trying to charge it - it won't charge until that's done - and the instructions don't mention that.
